Plano, Texas, February 22, 2010 — The Suder Foundation (TSF) has released its second request for proposals (RFP) for the Suder Scholars Program.
The Suder Foundation will give awards to two additional public universities for developing campus supports for the Foundation’s scholarship recipients, who are first-generation college students. Upon the successful completion of the planning grant year, both universities will receive scholarship support and seed funding for operations to pilot the program.
The second cycle of grants will build upon the groundwork already completed by the University of Kentucky and the University of Utah, the first two universities who received planning grants in 2009.
“By funding two additional universities, we will exponentially affect the larger picture of trying to achieve higher graduation rates for first-generation students,” said Eric Suder, President of the Suder Foundation.
All application materials are due by April 15, 2010, and grant recipients will be notified in mid-May to early June, 2010. For more information about this funding opportunity, refer to the grants page on the Suder Foundation’s Web site.
The Suder Foundation partners with selected public universities to provide seed funding for a holistic support program for students who are first in their family to attend college. In addition to multi-year scholarships, students selected as Scholars will participate in mentoring, tutoring, and campus and community engagement opportunities designed to increase their retention and, ultimately, graduation from college. Established in 2008, the Suder Foundation is a private foundation with headquarters in Plano, Texas.
